It has been some time since I first thought I should publish links to some of the most interesting news items I found, but I never took the time to actually do it... until today. I can't promise I will be able to do it every week, but I'll do what I can. So here is my selection for this week...
- Qt 4.5 and Qt Creator released: Nokia has officially released Qt 4.5, the new version of the famous open source cross-platform application framework. The licensing model has been slightly changed, with a new LGPL option. On the technical side, along with substantial performance increase, the framework has been ported to Apple's Cocoa framework, and the development kit comes with a very promising new IDE called Qt Creator.
- iPhone OS 3.0 Preview Event: Apple has sent out invitations to a special media event about the iPhone OS 3.0. It will take place tomorrow at 10 am PST. My bet: a solution will be revealed for the background processes issue (after the delayed push notification service announced at WWDC '08) and the copy/paste feature. But I hope Apple will surprise us with some other amazing new feature!
- Atlas: Cappuccino's Interface Builder: 280 North continues to port the incredible developer experience of Mac applications to the web. After Objective-J and Cappuccino, inspired from Objective-C and Cocoa, they revealed some details about a new tool called Atlas, which looks like Apple's Interface Builder.
- Bill Gates is world's richest man again: Although Bill Gates did lose $18 billion over the last year, those difficult times are not too bad for him after all, since he became once more the richest man in the world.
- French anti-P2P law in Parliament: French anti-P2P law, also called Hadopi, has been debated in Parliament, but the debate is suspended until the beginning of April. This law initially supposed to prevent artists creations from being illegally downloaded from the internet appears as an enemy of free speech.
- Steve Wozniak in Dancing with the Stars: Apple co-founder continues his journey in the Dancing with the Stars show having a lot of fun!
