VideoLAN
VideoLAN is a project born in VIA Centrale Réseaux which purpuse was to create a solution for broadcasting television programs in a LAN, so that people could see television on their computers.
Progressively, the VideoLAN team created a very famous program called VLC (VideoLAN Client).
I am not currently developping VLC, but some of my friends do, and I support this project as I can (helping with servers' administration, for example).

Debian
Debian GNU/Linux is one of the most used GNU/Linux distributions in the world. Very stable, well designed, quite easy to use, this is my first choice for my servers: when I want to host a very important project for me, I do it with Debian GNU/Linux.

Formation Debian
The "Formation Debian" is a quite famous website, initially created by Alexis Delattre, a member of VIA Centrale Réseaux.
It is a very good training program in French for those who want to learn how to use GNU/Linux, and more specifically Debian.
Indeed, I started using GNU/Linux thanks to this fantastic document.

Ubuntu
Ubuntu is another GNU/Linux distribution, derived from the unstable version of Debian. It is actually very user friendly, and I think it is the best alternative to Microsft Windows and Mac OS X for those who want to use free software, without having to use the command-line all the time.
Ubuntu is my first choice for a Desktop use of a PC.

For example, this website is based on Joomla!
